Cloud 9 are working with a leading manufacturer of creative packaging solutions who are looking to appoint an Engineering Manager for their site based in the North West.  You will be responsible for driving the success of efficient performance of the engineering department and overseeing the workforce within that department.  We are looking for candidates with strong and confident leadership and management skills together with Six Sigma/Lean Techniques. Key Responsibilities

Set clear objectives and strategies for reportees, directing, supporting and inspiring them towards their individual and collective targets.

Manage and monitor downtime and machine stoppages ensuring continuous production flow and capabilities.

Create profiles outlining main responsibilities of roles to encourage culpability of team members. 

Through clear communication ensure engineers are sufficiently trained in completing all their tasks effectively.

Manage and lead the engineering team delegating tasks where necessary.

Keep managers and supervisors appraised of plans for maintenance downtime that could potentially effect production targets.

Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed cost efficiently and at a high level of standards. Design the inhouse maintenance processes and tools to facilitate this.

Create and complete preventative schedules for maintenance works.

Be proactive in the negotiations and execution of service contracts.

Monitor performance of department through customer feedback and cost management.

Utilise materials and resources in a cost-effective way.

Report any machinery improvement recommendations to production management.

Ensure production operators are up to date with the basics of repairs and maintenance of machinery by creating an educational program.

Ensure robust Health and Safety procedures are in place and adhered to.

Ensure Health and Safety training is provided to newcomers, juniors, assistants.

Carry out other duties as and when may be required by the company.

Develop a great understanding of company technical requirements.

Skills and Experience

Experience in a similar managerial role within the packaging/manufacturing industry.

Mechanical/Electrical experience corrugated sector, other areas of the packaging and print sectors will be considered.

Ability to demonstrate LEAN Improvement Techniques/Six Sigma.

Excellent engineering knowledge.

Technically minded.

Ability to manage a budget, cost-reducing skills.

Excellent leadership skills.

Confident in problem solving and to challenge and escalate to senior management when needed.

Confident in introducing recommendations to improve productivity.

A clear and concise communicator.

Good organisational and prioritising skills.


You will receive a salary of Up to £70k pa (DOE) bonus, 25 holidays and fantastic pension scheme.
