We’re representing a long-established packaging manufacturer looking to appoint an experienced UK Account Manager to support growth across key customer accounts while driving new business opportunities. This is a strategic yet hands-on commercial role working closely with technical, design, and operations teams to deliver innovative rigid plastic packaging solutions.

Overview of the Role

The UK Account Manager will manage a portfolio of established customers while developing new relationships across FMCG and manufacturing sectors. You’ll act as the main commercial point of contact, ensuring customer needs are understood, projects run smoothly, and opportunities for growth are maximised.

This role blends account development, technical collaboration, commercial negotiation, and project ownership, and would suit someone who understands the packaging manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Account Management & Customer Relationships

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of UK accounts, ensuring excellent service, proactive communication and long-term retention.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer operations, technical needs and commercial drivers.
  • Identify opportunities to increase value within existing accounts through innovation, design and solution-led selling.
  • Share customer insights internally to support continuous improvement and product development.
  • Maintain accurate forecasting, reporting and CRM updates throughout the sales cycle.

New Business Development

  • Identify and convert new customer opportunities across core and adjacent markets.
  • Engage early in the customer development process to influence design and specification.
  • Lead proposals, quotations and commercial negotiations to achieve competitive but profitable outcomes.
  • Prepare compelling business cases working with internal stakeholders when required.

Project & Technical Coordination

  • Work closely with Technical, Quality, Design and Operations teams to turn customer concepts into manufacturable, sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Oversee key customer projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring timelines, costs and quality targets are met.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of manufacturing processes (IM, ISBM, extrusion etc.) and sustainability considerations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the wider group (including international teams) to ensure aligned commercial approaches.
  • Share best practice, customer updates and market insights across departments.
  • Support pricing models, margin management and customer lifetime value improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven track record in account management or business development in packaging manufacturing — ideally rigid plastics.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with experience managing pricing, margins and value-led sales.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, extrusion or ISBM.
  • Experience managing customer projects end-to-end in a cross-functional environment.
  • Proficient with CRM systems, sales reporting and MS Office tools.
  • Experience working with UK and/or European customer groups.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong relationship builder with a customer-first mindset.
  • Commercially sharp, technically curious and solution-orientated.
  • Confident communicator able to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple projects.
  • Resilient, adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally.
